The Foundation: Counting Your First Round

Before moving to Round 2, you must ensure your Magic Ring has the correct number of stitches. Counting correctly prevents your project from leaning or losing its shape.

Steps:
1. Locate the "V": Look at the outer edge of your circle. Each stitch creates a small "V" shape (composed of a front loop and a back loop).
2. Start from the Hook: Find the loop currently on your hook. Do NOT count this loop. 3.  The First Stitch: Look at the first "V" immediately below your hook. This is stitch #8 (if you made 8 sc).
3. Count Backwards: Follow the "V" shapes around the ring, counting back toward the starting tail.
4. Identify the Last "V": The final "V" you count should be the very first stitch you made. This is where you will insert your hook for Round 2.
5. Verify: If the pattern says "8 sc in MR," you should see exactly 8 "V"s around the circle.

Pro Tip: If you're using Jumbo or Bulky yarn, the "V"s are much larger and easier to see. Use your crochet hook to point at each one as you count to make it clear for your viewers!
